Internet youth and online buying in China

Ecommerce in China is without any doubt skyrocketing at this moment. Even though the spending of the youth segment of the population is moderate due to lower incomes they are the most active group online in terms of activity.

These digital natives are driven by a new set of cultural rules, a high interest of self development and the influence of foreign brands. The fast development and openness experienced in the country during the last 25 years rose an unprecedented gap with previous generations.

We’ve interviewed some anonymous youngs asking them about their habits and preferences buying online. Find the what, where and how in the following video:

As the first edition organized in the chinese capital, the 2013 Beijing Service Jam took place over the weekend of 1-3 of March at The Cocktail’s office, synchronously with more than 100 teams all over the world.

College teachers, interaction designers and industrial design students shared their effort working hard during the weekend. Guided by our team, the participants learnt how to research, conceptualize and prototype a service. Full of energy and interest, what the teams achieved in just 48 hours was undoubtly amazing.

Up to 75% of chinese internet users access from a mobile phone

From our local office at Beijing, we are glad to release today an introduction to the Chinese Internet Market.

With the chinese economy still growing fast, the internet market has experimented an incredible growth in recent years. And what is more promising, every analysis foresee what is seems to be an unprecedented boom for the years to come.

Although the word *Internet* embodies in western countries the idea of a global community with a global reach, Internet in China is actually a partly isolated enviroment with their own companies, services and rules.

Some bits that you'll find in the report:

  • There are more people connected to internet in China than in USA. Even more than in all european countries together.
  • Chinese internet users are frequent online buyers. In a couple of years the total money spent online per year and buyer will match USA's.
  • Mobile comes first. Up to 75% of internet users access from a mobile phone.
  • Many of the biggest internet companies in the world are actually from China. It just happen that you didn't come accross them, yet.
  • The rising middle class, economically wealthy and brand sensitive, is a perfect target for western companies willing to expand their business online.
